Acclaimed composer Marc Baril hails from Quebec City, where his first instrument was an old electric guitar that he bought with savings from his paper route. He fondly remembers playing in The Spitfires, jamming in a laundry room where the washer and dryer made up a good part of the rhythm section! He also finds hard to forget the five years he spent backpacking around the world across twenty-five countries on five continents. At last settling down in order to follow his passion for music, Marc to this day makes Vancouver his home.

He has earned multiple musical degrees, including a bachelor’s degree in composition from the University of British Columbia School of Music. He continued on as a composer and somewhat of a post-production extraordinaire at Radical Entertainment. There he scored nearly twenty projects, including The Simpsons Hit and Run, and Scarface: The World Is Yours – earning rave reviews for his music, as it ultimately reached an audience totaling over 50 million people worldwide.

Marc has scored many films, including Happy Face Killer, Blind Detective, for which the song “Love is Blind ” he co-wrote received a nomination for best original song at the Hong Kong Film Awards as well as the movie Soufflé au Chocolat, for which he was nominated for a Leo Award (British Columbia) for Best Score in a Feature Film.

From Hollywood’s historical Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox Film Studios, to the famed Mosfilm Studios in Moscow, he has had works performed by many orchestras around the world, including commissions by both the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Victoria Symphony.

In 2008 through special invitation, Marc attended ASCAP’s highly-competitive Television & Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles.
